Film Review: Digital Nation
On Monday, we watched a film titled "Digital Nation" which examined the impact that modern technology has on a student's brain and work process. As a student living in this era, I have to admit that technology is my number one distraction. Whenever I have the opportunity to use my computer in class, I do. While the computer is certainly beneficial for taking notes, looking up facts, etc., it also provides me with thirty second access to some of my favorite websites. Within instants of turning the computer on I find myself itching to check my Facebook or purchase a new pair of shoes from my favorite online store. Many students claim they can multitask, but I believe this to be false. While you may still succeed and learn a little bit while multitasking, you are not working to your potential. If we were rid of distractions, we would all be infinitely smarter. I would love to say that I can multitask successfully- but I can't. And the sad fact is, that despite my acknowledgment of my failure to multitask, I continue to do it on a daily basis. Sometimes I wonder, what is wrong with me? However, I know that I am just another product of my generation. Every student is like me in one way or another. It really is quite a shame.
